Kawajiri brush
Stock:
The Kawajiri brush, born in the closing years of the Edo period, is crafted from animal hair using the ancient technique of nerimaze (kneading and blending). Each stage — from raw hair selection to the delicate process of aligning, trimming, mixing, binding, and setting — requires not only skill but also judgment honed over decades.
Where many production centers have mechanized or divided their work, Bunshindo Hata maintains the full integrity of tradition. Over seventy steps are performed by hand, ensuring a consistency and responsiveness impossible to achieve otherwise.
